– Leave of Absence, the latest offering by renowned
playwright James Keller, plays January 28th through February 1st at the
Berkeley City Club
(2315 Durant Ave.,
Berkeley).
Leave of Absence focuses on
Harriet, a housewife in her mid-sixties disappears from home, as she takes
leave of her memory with the onset of AlzheimerÕs Disease. Hank, her husband
who retires with the sudden disappearance of his pension fund, realizes too
late that he has been Òabsent without leaveÓ from his life since he lost his
mother at the age of ten, and now must work full-time to pay for his wifeÕs nursing
home. Their story intermingles with the visits of one of their sons, Tom and
his wife, Kate who have to face a personal crisis of their own.
Leave of Absence will be performed evenings on Wednesday January 28,
Thursday January 29, Friday January 30, Saturday January 31and Sunday February
1 at 8 pm with matinees at 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20.
Parking is available at the Telegraph/Channing garage (2431 Channing Way) 1
block east of the Club.
Oakland based
playwright James Keller is known to bay area audiences as a prolific wordsmith.
His original plays include ÒIris and Her
Girls,Ó "Senior Moments," "the
Hypochondriac" and ÒClimbing with Alma.Ó ÒLeave of AbsenceÓ is his latest original offering.
